Both homes side by side 2 story is Ariel's and the other is his mother-in-law's.It would take me forever to write about Mexico and do it justice. I will share some of the highlights.
Highlights:
Working side by side with such wonderful people. They were trully amazing.
Experience 1: Ariel worked with us all day everyday. He would meet us at the church for breakfast, work with us all day, and have dinner at the church with us, (which the sisters cooked). He is a very righteous man. Joined the church when he was 16 and then served a mission to Leon Mexico. We had an accident on our job site, Dr. Matthews fell off the first floor and landed on the concrete. It was pretty scary for me. Within 10 seconds of Ariel getting there he pulled out his consecrated oil and handed it to Steve to give him a priesthood blessing. Ariel did give him a blessing a while later. Steve said it was the most powerful blessing he had ever heard, and he didn't even know what was said.
Experience 2: On our way out of Mexico, I was traveling with the Rogers and we were following Dr. Matthews. At one point he was in the wrong lane and needed to get over to the left to our lane. To do this he had to cross some bumps and we slowed down for him to get in. Immediatley we were pulled over. They told us it was illegal and that they were going to fine us for that and for not wearing seatbelts (ever heard of that in Mexico?). They told both of the drivers they would have to go to the police to station to pay the fine. They had police escorts on the way, and they said it would take us at least 3 hours. I had a thought come to my mind from Elder Bednar's talk...we create our day spiritually through prayer before we create it physically." Usually we all had prayer before we left the church for the job sites. I asked, "did we have prayer." No we hadn't had it. Laura said a prayer and asked that we would be safe and that the best thing would happen in the situation. Within 20 seconds the officer asked us what we were doing and who we represented. Rich told her (this was all in Spanish) that we were mormons, and asked if she had heard of mormons, she had. He told her we were there building homes for the people and we had brought donations, etc. She thanked us for helping her people, gave us the licenses and registration back, and told us we could go. As we drove past, she was crying. She had felt the spirit and we had witnessed a miracle.
To me this was another reminder that the Lord is in charge and to remember him always. He will help us, but we must remember him in all we do. He was reminding us that he is in charge, but helped us immediately.

The trip: First of all we had a little trouble getting into Mexico since we were pulling a trailor. They wanted to see what as inside. We had donations and our clothing as well as tools. They weren't going to let us through with the donations, they said it was too much. We had 3 trailors stopped at the border, but eventually they let us in. The guy leading told them we had 67 people coming, the patrol man asked him where all the people were, he said "you just let them all through in cars" and they let us go.
While in Mexico we were each assigned to a job site. There were four sites, some larger than others. We ended up building fours homes and putting a roof on another home. It was such a great experience. The site I was on was a home for Ariel and his family. He is married and has four children. Next to him we built a home for his mother in Law. I was with the greatest people on my site, Dr. Matthews and his family, the Steve Vincent family, the Chris Evans family, and Tracy, Mike, and Shelley and Heather.
Each morning we would get up at 7, have breakfast and fix lunches for the day. We would go to the site and build, stop for lunch, and then work until sundown. We stayed at their stake center which was gorgeous. We had running water, bathrooms, and all conveniences so we really didn't have to rough it.
I will add more pictures later of the people. I didn't get many of those, but I will get them.

wow. what amazing experiences (and miracles). sounds like you had a very worthwhile, testimony building time.
You haven't had your teeth cleaned until you've had them cleaned by Ginger! I went to the dentist for the first time in...well let's say it's been a while. She did a great job cleaning up my pearly yellows and Dr Matthews was great too. If any of you reading this live in Provo, go to Dr Matthews and have Ginger clean your teeth.
